I am shameless about my predilection for 90’s rock, that hot, bubbly tub of grunge masters that gives me the warm feels of my teenage years.
Today, 25-30 years later, Lithium is always on in the car. I sure do listen to a lot of satellite radio for someone who swore against it when it first came about. For those unaware, Lithium is the 90s rock station on SiriusXM with a regular rotation of hits: always (ALWAYS) Pearl Jam, some band featuring Chris Cornell, Rage Against the Machine, Foo Fighters, and Alice In Chains (damn it, they are awful) with a smattering of Weezer, Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, and yes also Oasis and other twee nineties bands.
Notice who isn’t on this list? Women. Sure, Lithium plays music from girl bands: Elastica, Garbage, Mazzy Star, but it’s eclipsed by the male-led music.
Why did I realize this recently?
